Radeon X1900 - Computer freezes when playing games

Post by rava »

Hello,

When I play games my screen turns black and the computer freezes, this happens after some minutes of playing. The strange thing is that it hasn't been like this for a very long time, it happened recently. Sometimes the game just crashes and i get this error message:

"VPU recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands"

I've tried disabling VPU recover but it's not working.

Is it over heating? Make sure the fan is still spinning and that the card heat sink fins are free of dust and dirt over the years. ATI also released new drivers yesterday, so be sure to update to the latest. http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

I would check and see if the fan is spinning. If the card is overheating it could cause a shutdown.

If the card is clean and keeping reasonably cool:

Maybe the latest drivers are a problem for this card?

See if you can find a slightly older driver version to use.
