Hello...

I'm new here, i have a problem with my graphics card i think...I'm going to try to explain my problem as close as I can to you so that somebody with good will can help me...
I have a Toshiba laptop Intel Dual Core 2.0, ATI Mobility Radeon 2600 HD, 2 Gb RAM etc...It's a solid , stable laptop i bought it year ago ...It's made for Vista , and i'm happy with that.
So here is the problem, i installed 4 new games on my laptop(Red Alert 3, PES 2009 , NBA 2K, Fallout 3) and on all four games I have the same problem, i play the game, example for 5-10 minutes and in some moment it freezes...The screen goes black, and the sound is still playing and I cant do nothing, the only thing i can do is to turn off my laptop and turn it on again... I tryed to download newest ATI Mobility Radeon 2600 HD drivers and installed them but still the problem is not solved...So i dont know if it's becouse ofVista,Graphics Card or something else...If anyone has a similiar problem like me, i would be greatfull for some kind of help...

Much Thanx...
Niksa,
Croatia.

Try running ATITools artifact scanner mode for 15-30minutes. If you can monitor the temperatures of your 2600 from the ATI CCC software then do so while you are testing. Make sure you leave the pink cube window on top while testing so that the program works properly.

Can you tell us what happens when you do this please.

Hey Dan!

I appreciate your helping me... I've installed ATITools and i've done what you asked me to do, when i started the artifact scanner it scanned for about 2,3 minutes and it went black just as same as when I played the games i've mentioned in my first post... So what do you think, what can be the problem? Is it overheating? is it something else???
p.s. I couldn't monitor the temperature in my CCC becouse i couldn't find that option in it....

Much thanx!Nixa

Until we can rule it out, I am wondering if it is overheating. Try grabbing GPUz, and see if the temps are shown on the sensor tab, then run ATITool again and see what the temps are like before it crashes.

Did the whole screen go black or just the 3D fluffy cube section?

The hole screen went black, and the computer entirely freezes. I can't do nothing ,except shutting it down manualy, nothing can be done in that phaze. It's really desturbing and its pissing me off...
In GPU-Z i dont have a temp tab, the only tabs i have are Graphics card,Sensors and Validation, only those 3 tabs...I'm really sorry if i'm boring but i really have no idea what to do...????

*****************************************

I did as you have told me to , and the same problem appeared, the screen went black, computer freezed and that's that...i've monitored the GPU core clock and GPU memory clock when i've started the ATItools and was not changing,GPU core clock was 499 mhz and GPU memory clock 396 mhz...if that was what you asked me to do...

Did you see something like this on the sensor tab? (GPU temperature being the important one)

It looks like your 2600 doesn't have a temperature sensor in it then, which is a bummer as it means we can't tell how hot it runs.

What's the weather like out where you are? Is it cold at night/in the evenings yet? If you could keep the laptop cooler than normal and it ran for longer than normal before crashing that would indicate it is temperature related.

Try stressing out your CPU and see if it crashes. Grab, orthos and set it running to 'small FFT's' for about 15-30mins and see if that runs ok (if it errors, you'll know about it).

Yes, that expains why i could not see the temperature of my GPU...

The weather here now is for this time of a year veery appropriate... the daily temperature is from 5-20 C... I can try that test tomorow that youve told me... I really have no idea what can possibly be, i've installed the latest radeon drivers from ATI, also the latest CCC, i've played tones of games before in this year, and sometimes that thing with the black screen was happening but not that often... When i've installed latest 3-4 games it happened after 3 ,4 minutes of playing those games...Can Direct X be the problem, or maybe drivers? or CCC?

At this point it could be anything GPU (or heat) related.

If you want to have another go with re-installing the drivers, grab driver cleaner pro and after you have uninstalled the ATI drivers reboot and run the cleaner program. Then reboot again and try installing the latest ATI drivers.

What sort of surface is you laptop on? if so try a solid surface and if that doesnt work put it up on books on the sides so that way there is easy ventilation to the fans.

Hey,

I'll try that with driver cleaner today...then i'll post my results...I already formatted my entire computer and reinstalled Vista so i think driver cleaner want be of use becouse i installed fresh/latest drivers the first time Vista started.

My laptop is on my desk , and the desk is made out of wood, it has been here this entire year , so i doubt that is the problem...

I'm thinking to take my laptop to the store were I bought it. I have a 2 year warranty , so if i dont find a solution in a few days,i'll take it to them...

Tnx guys...If you think of some kind of other solution ,please notify me...Niksa

I'm out...
