ATI AMR Rumor Level Strengthens

More details coming out on ATI AMR (ATI Multi Rendering) this week. This is what can be made so far:

ATI will make its SLI work without a small printed circuit board (PCB) to interconnect the cards.

ATI AMR will be able to use Alternate Frame Rendering.

You will need 1 master card and 1 slave card.

You can't set the cards to master or slave like an ide device. You have to buy them both for their specific purpose as they are manufactured as master or slave.

ATI has not said that you will be to run a slave or just a master - so if you want to go AMR you might have to shell out a ton of money all at once.

3rd party manufactures do not like this idea.
They have said "screw you" to ATI and do NOT want to have to make two versions of the same thing and market them differently.

As of now, ATI will be the only manufacturer of the master boards, and as such, probably the only choice if you want a dual card setup.

No word on performance, and I the image quality implications of the VGA to VGA dongle, if true, will be interesting.

Guide To Upcoming ATI Buzz Words:

Multi Video Processing units (MVP)
ATI Multi-Rendering (AMR)
Alternate Frame Rendering (AFR)

Wow. If you need two different versions of the same thing, screw ATI cards until they do something smarter...there's no "master" and "slave" in SLI!

Well the advantage here is that i could use my X800XL as the slave meaning that i dont have to buy 2 new cards to make AMR work, where as you HAVE to have two compatible nvida cards to make SLI work.

It's rumored that all X850 and above cards will be supported as the slave cards.

you do know that amr will only run @ the slowest card speed, which mean if u have X800 and X850, it will run @ X800 speed not X850...that is why there is master and slave...
