which card for tf2 at 1900*1200

Post by cwesc »

What is the cheapest video card that i can get that can play tf2 (team fortress 2) on all high at 1900*1200. with at least 60 avg frame per second . I have a core 2 duo e8500 , windows vista home premium (32 bit) ,2 gigs of ram and a 650 wat psu .

I was thinking about ati 4830 not sure if this is to high or 2 low. I just want a cheap card until the next generation of cards comes out .

That would be more than fine. My X1900XT's would run HL2 and CSS at 1920x1200 at 72fps.

with my specs, and ONE 9600GSO at highest possible settings @1280x1024 i get between 90-300FPS(300 at a death-cam shot) and average probably 140 in TF2(it's my main game, i'm on a competitive team)
and that is the 96 shader processor version, so i'd start out at least with a 9600GT(64 stream processors), and go up from there depending on your budget

9600GT's start around ~$90, 9800GT's start at $120a 9800GT would really hold you over for a while even if you plan to play more demanding games than TF2

and i'm not "up" on how well ATI performs at this price range, but i'd imagine the 48xx series would be a good choice aswell

TF2 is probably the most demanding of all of the source engine games right now, but source is so easy on video cards so it doesn't take much to get a good framerate.

I was doing some troubleshooting once and stuck a 3470 and I was still able to play TF2. I have a friend that play on a laptop with the mobile version of the 3470 and still plays just fine.

I think a 4830 should be just fine and theirs one on newegg for $99 plus $10 rebate, can't go wrong.

yeah, the new 9600GSO's with the 48 Stream Processors would definately be weak, its too bad they don't make them with 96 SPs anymore like mine are, its very sad

I have a weird 9600 GSO though. It has 96 Stream Processors and 1 GB of RAM, sounds good right? WRONG! The ram is slow and clocked at 900 mhz.
