HD 4830 black screen

While playing a movie or simply idling, the screen goes black as if the connection was interrupted. I can still control whatever apps were still running ( I know because itunes was running with music playing).
I have tried locking and unlocking the stock clocks. This should not be a heat issue because the highest temp achieved was in the mem and it was 45 C while stressing. The core and shaders remain a few degrees less.

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers?

I've had similar issues with my 4850 the past few months. Usually happens in-game with WoW, but not exclusively. Have reinstalled drivers several times now. My temps are low enough, so I know that's not the issue. I've really been scratching my head on this issue. If I figure anything out I'll be sure to post back.

I have the same issue with Sapphire HD 4670 Ultimate. It usually happens after 2-3 hours of gaming or 3d-testing. Machine carries on running fine, but without the video. (I can even start movies or music using the keyboard.)
Driver: It was Catalyst 9.1 (8.573). I've just updated to 9.3 (8.591), no change...
Temperatures are fine, I think. Testing with GPU Caps and Orthos running at the same time, max load: GPU - max. 63C, CPU - max. 42C, MB - max. 36C.
No OC, RAM modules and PSU are decent and fully tested.
Have you guys figured this out?

Nothing yet for me. I'm on the Catalyst 9.2 drivers and was hoping that 9.3 would help. I'm really not sure what to do at this point. I had thought that maybe the RAM on the card was overheating - the GPU is watercooled with RAM sinks on the modules.
I've added some better fans and now have them hooked up to my fan controller. All of the temp readings that I've taken show the GPU @ around 40oC under 99% load. All of the other temp readings that show up are in that range or lower.
I wish I had the miracle cure at this point, but I don't. I've googled the issue a few times, and it seems like quite a few folks are having this issue (if ours are the same).
I originally had an NVIDIA card in this system prior to the 4850. I've also had a 9600GSO in the system when I was trying to fold on it, but have since pulled it out. I thought I scrubbed the old drivers out good enough, but maybe I haven't. One of these weekends when I have more time I might try to do another scrub and see what happens.

Good Lord no resolutions yet? Makes me wonder if the cards even passed the QA program..Seen way too many posts here with similar issues.

I think I just give up experimenting with ATI. Had too many issues with its drivers, even with my old laptop, which has a Mobility Radeon X700 in it.
I mainly chose this HD4670 for the passive cooling. I've only bought it a few weeks ago, will try to exchange it to an NVidia.

So I figured I'd throw an update in here. I cleaned out my drivers AGAIN and upgraded from 9.3 to 9.4 drivers. So far so good. I haven't seen a single black screen. I was also getting random gpu crash alerts and I haven't seen one since the driver upgrade. Crossing my fingers here and hoping all is good now.

Actually I RMA-ed my 4670, the shop replaced it (finally I thought I'd give another chance to ATI) and the new driver just came out in the meantime, so I'll never figure out if it was the card or the driver, but now it works just fine with Catalyst 9.4. I've stress-tested it with Caps Viewer and Orthos at the same time for about 6 hours, and played Fallout 3 for about 12 hours, no problems so far.

From what I have seen so far my 4850 is much more stable with the 9.4 drivers. I haven't had the black screen in game yet. It did go black and throw an error on me last night when I was exiting WoW. I think it has erred maybe 3 times in the past couple of weeks. The other errors happened during the day when the rig was just sitting there and folding.

I'm glad the new driver is helping dude. I was hoping it would but until now, I haven't seen any news on it. Coolness.

Thanks, they seem to be working okay so far. Looks like Karn went the RMA route and I haven't seen what happened with xevious.
