HIS Radeon HD 3650 - poor video quality

Has anyone had success with HD 3650 for video playback. Resolution is set to 1080p at 60Hz and I'm using the HDMI adapter and plugging it into my panasonic Full HD plasma. The desktop looks ok (although it doesn't look 100%). My biggest dissappointment is the poor quality of the video. So far I'm using zoom player and Media portal for video playback. I'm streaming ts files from another computer. They playback ok through my xbox using xbmc. This is only in 1080i and looks alot better.
The quality from the 3650 can be described as looking almost mosaic. I was getting better quality using the onboard VGA at a lower resolution.
Also, when I install the catalyst software and drivers, I lose the audio through the hdmi. Upon initial boot before installing the software, I had audio. I downloaded the latest software and driver package for the 3650 but during the install process, it told me it couldn't detect any appropriate hardware and then the install stops.
Any clues or config options anyone can suggest would be greatly appreciated, otherwise I've wasted $130 on a agp video card.
Thanks,
Wayne.
