I recently upgraded to a Radeon HD 4870 1GB and when I first powered up my system, the card displayed fine in DVI, but the trouble came after I installed the new drivers. My monitor absolutely refused to display via DVI so I had to switch to VGA (ugh). I was wondering what went wrong when Skizz informed me that he had the same problem with his new 4890 and getting a DVI-D Dual Link cable fixed the issue for him. So, this leaves me wondering why the 4870 cannot display an image with DVI-D Single Link. Why, exactly is DVI-D Dual Link required? I am hoping one or more of you can tell me the reason why. thanks in advance!

EDIT: Never mind, I just discovered the real problem. Well, time to shop for a new monitor...
