have a problem - need some help (radeon 9800pro)

guys i have a little problem. my radeon 9800 pro crashed and 2 days later i got a new radeon 9800 pro from the same supplier. its the exact same card as the old one.

but the problems showed up, after i plugged the new card in. the graphic is totally f*cked up, which means that the icons on the screen disappear for a while or the startmenu entries are not completly shown... but the clue is: not even the screensaver does work. the monitor goes to standby, if the graphics card has to "draw" something (like screensaver or games) and i can only reset the pc.

i tried to reinstall all drivers (ati and nforce-chip) but it won't work. the card and drivers in safe-mode works fine i think... means, i didn't saw problems. i don't want to reinstall windows, so i hope, that someone has some tips for me, that i can fix the problem. thanks in advance

my system:
athlon 2600+
1024mb ddr ram
radeon 9800 pro

Have you got the extra power lead connected?
You may have to reinstall :(
To be sure you could try Knoppix or other live cd, that is if you have a copy, or fast access to interweb

mayby try run dxdiag and disable some directx features?

What case temps do you have?
What psu? What are your volts like?

need more info

Welcome by the way :)

power lead is connected..

disable what directx features? the system is still the same, since the last 2 days... except the new (same type) graphics card. if i try to run the directx tests, the monitor switches to standby mode... hard to explain in english.

volts and temps are fine.. just like i said.. nothing has changed.

and i can't understand why it all works in safemode, but not in normal mode. there is maybe one or two files who will not work together.. but driver reinstall won't help... and that is the thing which drives me crazy. i also tried omega drivers. but won't work either. there must be a way to solve that damn thing :/

I'd say download driver cleaner 2.0 and wip out oall your graphics drivers......if that doesn't work i'd consider an entire system refresh, format your HDD and reinstall everything.
Not saying this is what happened, but I have had issues with certain drivers being corrupted at the MS end and causing certain components to not work correctly.

ATI have their own uninstall utility - might try that?

Do you have another agp card? to test with?

As i and i and capper5016 said - you may have to reinstall :(
there is not much you can do,

Sorry, mayby someone else may have some ideas

exchanged it to 5700fx? wow what a downgrade! its just half the performance of the 9800pro...

the problem occur when radeon card over heated for a period of time, as result, it kills the die, since radeon has carppy heatsink especially BBA, and fan usually die, i had a R9500pro and it start shows red line, and 2d pic does not show, after a while i check the fan is not wroking and the die seems to be a bit brown, i even apply new heatsink and still dead, it happen to my 9500p, 9600 and 9800np

i was so piss off so i go for nv, the heatsink and fan is much better qaulity, even the driver tells me when is over heating...ati should do something with the cheap ass cooling
