ATI - HDTV primary monitor - input change freezes computer

I have a 4670 Sapphire with 1GB mem. Once getting the HDMI working, I've encountered problems when I change the imput on the HDTV (Sharp aquos 32D64u). When I return to the HDMI input, the computer appears frozen and only a hard reboot is possible.

WinXP Media edition
Up to date drivers (9.6)

If I've neglected some required specs, let me know.

Also, I might be a little wayward between the most current control center version and driver version. If some one could clear the numbering up, I would appreciate it.

Cheers.

Here's a possible solution that refreshes the signal between video card and HDTV.

Might only be for DVI to HDMI users. Haven't tried yet but will report if it works for my HDMI to HDMI setup.

edit: while that little program works for HDMI to HDMI, it seems my problem is more related to the computer freezing than a loss of signal.

So the issue is actually:

Computer freezes when switching input from HDMI to television and back to HDMI
