ATI Radeon HD 5970 Hemlock Video Card Pictures

Post by Apoptosis »

Last week Maingear released a new computer called "The SHIFT." The chassis is based on the Silverstone Raven case, but if you look real close inside you will see something that wasn't supposed to be seen yet!

Do you see it? A pair of dual-GPU cards are in there right? Well, those are the Radeon HD 5970 graphics cards that has put the fear of God into NVIDIA now that their GT300 chip is delayed till April 2010.

Usually when photos leak out of cards the launch is less than a month away, so can you say 5970 for Christmas???

Here is a closer crop of the cards:

Notice the connectors are different and all that... I wonder if the maingear system had 4870 X2's in it after all.

it seems to be the case, unless the latter pics are another un-named card, or a different revision of it

It could possibly be a 5970, but what about a 5890? It's a dual GPU, and the size of the card seems to be pretty big - like the 5870. Also there are "slits" on the of the card = improved design? Could it be the new design for better airflow, because the 5870,5850,etc has a small back exhaust the the "holes" infront of the intake fan didn't improve airflow by much.

On the other hand, it CAN be a 4870. The 6-pin/8-pin seems to have the design of a 4870/4870X2. Additionally, the 4870X2 is pretty large. It could be a different design-the slits along the card- but I don't recall a 4870 (or 4870X2) that looked like that made by Sapphire, Diamond, etc. *Could it be made by an international manufacturer? (Manufacturer in Asia?)*

Edit: My bad, I meant a 5870X2...not 5890 since it's a dual GPU card.

They aren't calling it the 5870 X2 they called it the 5970 this time around.

The card pictured above with the slits was a very early sample... The heat sink on the real card looks just like a 5870 or 5850's with the bat mobile heat sink.

So they are really 5970s; cool  . It's a little on the big side though lol. On the other hand, it's cooling seems to be really good and it beats the GTX 295.

Man, TSMC needs to kick their butts into overdrive already and start getting those cards made so we can get ahold of them! My new rig is on back order right now with the 5870...I can only imagine the back order on the 5970's...
