Hi,

I got the ATI RADEON 9800 SE 256 MB. Everytime if I play an online game and im playing for a while, my screen becomes black and after I got an error with: "VPU Recover" and a fault in the graphic card. Then I press "Don't send" and I go on with playing. A little time later I can again a black screen and then my monitor says: "No Signal". In this case I need to reboot by pressing my Reset button and I loose all the thing I've done. It's very annying and I hope someone of u guys know something to do against it.

Sounds like you might be over heating or have a screen resolution/Hz issue... What are your display settings?

does the card have a fan?
Does it get hot?

have you tried reinstalling your drivers?

9800pro needs an additional power connector, Does the SE version too?

Troubbleshoot your software first, reinstall, use driver cleaner or ATI's uninstall utility

Is prob persists, check your voltages with MM5
Could be a power supply issue
What are your system specs?

After your sure that power is ok, heats not the issue and software is not corrupt --> could be faulty card?

Check Event Viewer, R-click My Compurter goto manage
"VPU Recover" is an ATI thing, without it you get a blue screen or in XP's case a reboot otherwise.

I will add however that by MM5 I think he is refering to Motherboard Monitor 5 (also abbreviated MBM5 or just MBM). A nice little program though I must say

But it does sound like a resolution/refresh rate issue. Go into your driver settings (right click desktop->properties->settings tab->advanced->monitor tab). Make sure everything is cosher in there and you aren't running any resolutions or refresh rates your monitor cannot handle. What monitor do you have?

Also, I'm not sure if it will work or if it is even the right thing I am thinking about, but try disableing Vsync. I think I've heard people get better stability sometimes if they disable this feature if they are experiencing problems. I however have never disabled it and have not had a problem (with my 9600pro at least).
