I also read this on the Inquirer
Inquirer wrote:It turns out that you cannot set higher refresh rate than 1600x1200 at 60Hz - we were right about that. However, you will be able to use 1920x1200 but you will be limited to 52Hz only. Bothc cases are fine for all TFT users as 60Hz on those displays by some miracle looks very good.
This still will be insuficcient for millions of people who want to own Crossfire and have a good old but big and great CRT display. I don't plan to throw away my 22-inch CRT capable of 2048x1536 anytime soon and on these displays you kind of want to play at 1600x1200. On an office 19-inch TFT I simply cannot go more than native resolution of 1280x1024 at 60Hz.

must be hard to write an aritcle with out ever seeing the card. Looks like they got the data from "sources" and wrote about the numbers.

hkepc.com have the card? I'm not suggesting it was them, but there are samples out there.

It's still interesting...But the 60hz issue?

I don't plan on switching to TFT for a while.. I love my CRT :)

A new article over on Penstarsys seems to show the 60Hz issue isn't so bad!

According to them the Sil 1161 reciever chip is fast enough at 60Hz as the chip only has to deal with 1/2 of the rendered image (50/50)

I think we will have to wait till the cards are released to be sure....

I'm sure Nvidia are loving this ;)

:edit: it looks like techpowerup and Nvidia are doing the usual PR propoganda too...

They quote The TechReports ATI board review... Wasn't that a engineering sample? Saphire will prob fix alot of those issues via bios update and or drivers....

Also ATI are creating one of their first mobo chipsets.. Nvidia are on version 4 (Nforce 4)...

I love this! Each side putting down the others.. with no real ubiased benchmarks to prove either sides argument ;)

:edit again:
The Inquirer wrote:"Sander's R520 numbers don't come from an 520 graphics board - they come from a Ouija board," said one ATI official.

They were also using Beta drivers, and the final clockspeed isn't finalised

HAHA, that is hilarious! I've never seen a conmpany attack another so intensly!!! WOW
I think people are just getting all freaked out because R520 and Crossfire are not available yet. ATI's is obviously having some behind the curtain issues but I'm sure it will be out soon enough and then all this crazyness will be put to rest once and for all.
Hopefully no one bases their buying decisions on these "phantom" reviews

All we can do is wait and see....

I think it's real funny that Nvidia is trying to shoot them down before the cards are even released yet............. Might lead you to think that they have something to be afraid of.................. 8)

Why indeed.. They already have the market share too.. They have a real product which people can use and be in awe of...

I think your right Bio... It's damage control.. they know ATI have a 32pipeline chip, as far as WE know it has major problems.. who knows if ATI can get better yields?? --> If they do then the 7800 is in serious troubble! I doubt that too unless they can get it to the shops by november!

A little something on the front page of [H]ard OCP this morning. ....................... Seems that hardwareanalysis.com was a little bit more than upset at ATI about not being asked to come out and play.

Vapor-Hardware Analysis:
Sander Sassen of HardwareAnalysis.com looks as if he might have gotten caught putting out a video card "review" of a product he never had. DriverHeaven has a good write-up for those not wishing to read a novel. It does seem that Sander feels as though his opinion of ATI impacts the world market though. This is what he had to say after he was excluded from an ATI event.

So you're telling me I'm not invited is that it? I feel an ATI column coming up, lets see if we can drop the stock price shall we?

You can find Sander’s recap of the events here. And you can even find ATI responding about the situation.

I was one of the first people to hire Sander back in the late 90's. We split ways after he concocted and idea that I had stolen his heatsink designs and sold it to the Taiwanese. To this day I still have never figured out what exactly got him thinking that. It is sad that Hardware Analysis has sunken to the level that it has. They used to be a good site to visit. I have to say that many times I did not agree with Sander’s opinion on hardware, but it is always a good thing to see something from another point of view. Now you have to wonder how many times his point of view was totally unfounded.

Undoubtedly, with so many hardware websites active, it is hard to be first at anything anymore, especially if you "play by the rules." That said, we made up our minds a long time ago that we would rather be right than first when it comes to debut hardware. And while some sites have no credibility as they are fall directly into the tabloid category, it is not them that worry me. Most people can look at those sites and know fully that they deal more in rumor mongering and fiction writing than much anything else. Sites like Hardware Analysis crossing the line do a ton more damage to the industry. I would hope you would be getting solid information from someone like Sander, but apparently that may not be the case. Interestingly enough, TheInquirer refers to Sander Sassen as, “OUR GOOD colleague.”

Now is the time for Sander to buck up and take his licks before he digs a really big hole that his small website will never have the power to get out of. And on this, I speak from experience."

Lawsuit anyone?

It's very sad when people print "articles" which have no real evidence....

I have always found Kyle to be clear and to the point...

I think what he is saying applies to all sites.... Noobs goto google and search for " "x" gfx card review", they click the first link and believe all they see (don't even read the article)..

Thankfully we have sites like LR , Madshrimps, [H], anandtech, techreport, bigbruin, xbitlabs etc.

We all know review sites have to "play the game", they need to keep sponsors happy and work within NDA's

So what if that site has alot more hits in the last few days! they can try to charge more for their ads.. for now.. the word has/is speading and people just won't visit there again

This has never stopped a good review site from posting the facts...
Along with that, We can use their forums for real opinions, not just PR

I think the "game" has only begun.. Lets see what ATI have to say, and more importantly... What the real benchmarks show when the real gfx card is out!

This gen of 4pipe ATI spanks nvidia last generation 8 pipes
Now if it would only scale the X1800XT would be extremely fast
