HD5770 + x1550 + Windows 7 x64 HELP!

Hello all, I have a 5770 and a x1550.
I've installed catalyst 10.4 and the only card that works is the 5770, when I view device manager I see the following message when viewing the properties for the x1550:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
I've tried catalyst from 9.8 up through the most recent. When using ati's own support hierarchy yields no results when selecting this x1550 and windows 7 x64. is there anyone who knows what I am doing wrong? This card is just for my third monitor since I don't have any display-port monitors.
Thanks!

The X1550 will use legacy drivers, not the current catalyst software. The legacy drivers should be able to be found
here. Does the card work if you use it only in your rig?

a card that old has a specific "legacy" driver from ATI(10.2 found here)
great minds ay
did you
install 10.4 for the 5770
plug in 1550 w/ its monitor
install 10.2 legacy & force windows to scan for additional video outputs(to extend/duplicate to the third monitor) in display-resolution settings
reboot?

I'm prety sure that I've done this.. but I will try it again.. so to be clear I should:
Uninstall all ati software
-reboot
clean drivers from the system
-reboot
Install 10.4 with only the 5770 plugged in
-reboot
then
-shutdown
plug-in the x1550 w/monitor connected and powered on
-power on pc
install 10.2 for x64 windows 7
-reboot
once booted...force windows to scan for additional video outputs(to extend/duplicate to the third monitor) in display-resolution settings
reboot
??

sounds about right, the other option would be to try only the x1550 and make sure it works in win 7

maybe I'll try that first, I don't wanna really take out the 5770.. but such is the process of trouble shooting...
Also which download should I install for the linked page?
1. Catalyst Software Suite 10.2 (95MB)
2. WDM Integrated Driver 10.2 (36MB)
Not sure what the WDM is.. but my thought is that installing the catalyst over the 10.4 version won't work.

I would do the suite with a custom install and install only the driver and nothing else

Awesome, I'll try the software installs first as I'm not home and can do this remotely... I'll post my results, thanks!

Simplest solution would be to pick up another 57xx card or even a card that will use the same driver as your 5770. best bet would be a 5750, in a pinch you could crossfire them for a bit more performance down the line.

Another option might be to get a Displayport to DVI adapter and just use the 5770.

A little outside my budget, this card is just for my third monitor. My upgrade path in a few months is to get a 2nd xfx 5770 for crossfire but right now I can't do it. But I've decided to take this one back and get a 4350 Microcenter's got'em for 40 bucks... I paid $22 for this one.. so that's not to bad

I initially looked into this but it's my understanding that you need an active adapter ($100) for this to work with Eyefinity... definitely more than I'm willing to spend. Have you heard or seen otherwise?

Are you trying to get this to work with eyefinity? All of the monitors need to run off of 1 card in order for eyefinity to function.

I initially bought my 5770 to do eye finity yes, but I made the mistake of purchasing it before doing all the research on it. SO I found out post purchase that you need to have one of the three displays be a display-port. So i figured since I got a serious bump in performance moving from an 8800GTS 320MB to the 5770 I'd hold on to the 5770 in the hopes of crossfiring it eventually... and I plan to have 6 monitors eventually:
In this grid setup:
|37"|37"|37"|
|22"|19"|22"|
So once I get to that point I will most likely invest in the active adapter for one of the 37" monitors to be mounted on the wall in my office. As these will be used for Eyefinity gaming, were as the smaller 22x19x22 grid will be for productivity.

Why can I not run HD5770 + X1550 at the same time?
Using Windows 7 x64, I really need to make use of the TV-out function on the X1550 but
when I try to run it with the HD5770 I can only use one card, the other will complain about not being able to start because of memory resources etc.
Any ideas?
