A friend of mine that works at ATI just sent me an e-mail stating the following:
We will very shortly (today) be posting a beta hotfix driver. It is related to the story Hexus ran

http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=3668

and related to

“The fix will shortly be rolled into CATALYST 5.11 according to ATI sources and a beta drop of that driver will be made available for testing in due course, before the final WHQL driver from Terry Makedon's CATALYST team is made available for public download in November.”
If any of our readers have an ATI card and have time to benchmark DOOM 3 before and after the hotfix to write up a quick one page article to be posted on the fix let me know.

WOAH, that's frickin' awesome. It's crazy how much software can affect performance as much as hardware can!
Hopefully someone can test this out and give us some real-world, reliable results!

Go and get em and let and and let me know if you do any benchmarking on them. We would love to see the results, and I am willing to post them up on the main page and give you credit if someone wants to do before and after benchmarking.
