i am sure these question have been asked alot... but...

1.do the 2 cards have to be the same brand ?

2. what psu would i need to run 2 5870 ?

1) No they don't have to be the same brand
2) Depends on the brand and quality of the PSU. AMD recommends at least a 600W PSU for 5870 CrossFire with 2 cards and a 500W PSU for a standard single GPU setup.
