Can anyone tell me how much of a performance increase or decrease a Mobility x300 will give me in comparison to a Mobility 9700?

I ask because a friend offered me his Inspiron 6000 for dirt cheap and I can then sell my Inspiron 9100 to my parents. Would this be a good upgrade or bad? The big thing I like is the Inspiron 6000 has a mobile CPU compared to mine having a straight up Pentium 4. I do play a lot of games on my laptop and if an x300 is going to kill my performance, I'm not going to bother.

Thanks!

i think they are about the same... maybe a slight advantage in performance to the 9700 but better features and DX9 support in the X300.

currently you'll get better performance in games from the 9700, however as mentioned above when the games start to phase out support below dx9 you may not be able to use that card on anything but it'll give you better framerates on things it can run. Also, is that card dx9 compatable? because my 256mb 9600 atlantis is but I dont' think all of the 9k series was. it'll make a difference I think also. The ram suprisingly doesn't make that bi of a differnece on cards, a 9600 128 will perform on par with a 9600 256, because they weren't engineered to sued the 256 to start anyway. on newer cards it will at least.

Well, I play a lot of WoW and I hope an x300 will do better. I know the CPU in the system is much better than my Pentium 4 laptop. It has a 1.6GHz Mobile Pentium and I can upgrade to a 2.0 no problem. I can even pick-up the 2.0GHz CPU @ $150 or so on EBay.

I'm wondering if the Inspiron 6000 can accept any better cards such as the x600 or x800... or hell even the newer x1x00 series... but that all depends if it has the room or not.
