ATI R600 Specs Revealed
According to recent news, originating in Canada, spread on a few hardware forums the new ATI R600 chip will be released around November/December 2006. The full specs include a stunning 64 shader pipelines, GDDR4 memory and will be built on 65 nm. The full specs leaked are as follows:
65nm
64 Shader pipelines (Vec4+Scalar)
32 TMU's
32 ROPs
128 Shader Operations per Cycle
800MHz+ Core
102.4 billion shader ops/sec
512GFLOPs for the shaders
2 Billion triangles/sec
25.6 Gpixels/Gtexels/sec
256-bit 512MB 2GHz+ GDDR4 Memory
57.6 GB/sec Bandwidth (at 1.8GHz)
WGF2.0 Unified Shader
Even if these are wrong they are impressive to look at! Japan's PC Watch has reported that the forthcoming G80 from nVidia may consume up to 175 watts and that the R600 seen above will use 200 watts of power per card! (source)

Well as I see it, a huge part of the equation is "how much will the R600 cost?" If they price it at $600+ then it's very likely I won't have much choice. I can't afford that, let alone that AND a new power supply!
Truthfully, I'm not certain that DX10 will be "all that" from the start. In fact it sounds to me like Nvidia is betting it won't be such a huge success, because they are making a card that handles DX9 well, while having just marginal function for DX10. And my plan was to get the industry sort things out before I buy anything. To be specific, I'll wait until some company releases a game that I just have to play. Then I'll find out what runs it best, thereby allowing the rest of you eager beavers to be the beta testers...
