R600 to be the new R520?

Everyone remembers way back when the X1800XT came out. Everyone was like OMG! and bought it. And two months later ATI pulled off a backstab and released R580, the X1900XTX. Everyone was like WHAT. THE. ****.

Well does it seem likely to anyone that the R620, R680, R700 or whatever will do the same thing to R600 that the R580 did to the R520? This both worries me AND pisses me off.

Its part of the game, new parts are always gonna be around. I'm the type of person who holds on to what they have.

For example my last upgrade

x700 to 7900gt, essentially a 3 tier upgrade (NVIDIA went 6800-7800-7900, ATI x800-x850-x1800).

Rule of thumb for me if it can play the games I want with no stuttering, then I don't need to upgrade.

That is always a trend with GPUs so its no big surprise.

Now that you've seen that coming, you can get a better deal for hardware life before its 'obsolete'.

Personally I'd stay away from the first round of DX10 hardware (unless you are using them for fast DX9) as we don't know yet how they are going to stack up in DX10 and the product refresh/next line will be much better and they should have killed any unforseen flaws. Remember that the first few DX9 cards weren't particually great...

Well what I was trying to point out is that if the Product 1 that comes before Product 2 suffers severe delays while the development of Product 2 doesn't, then 1 will come out only shortly before 2, making it kinda pointless. As far as I know the standard industry refresh cycle is 6 months, but the X1900 was released only 2 months or so If I remember correctly, after the X1800. I afraid that the X2900 might do the same thing to the X2800.

I get you meant that. :P
Thats why if you hang out for the 2900's you won't be annoyed with the lesser 2800's.

=D> bravo!

this is the moment all computer guys wait for... the price drop or the release where you can get a toofer! (two-for the price of one really) you get the release of two similar products and if the product line was stable before, chances are the previous models are going to drrrrop in price! i know i didnt have to say it but i guess i did. Me, myself, and I are waiting for the next geforce model, the 8900 or 8950 I cant remember what I saw or where I saw it, but I’m stoked that prices for the 8800 series will drop sooner or later
