xbox 360 proposition

so my buddy ed has had a 360 for a long while now, but the loading tray screwed up and he's been waiting to fix it due to the horrible roommate situation he has (one of the 3 there will NOT get a job... yeah its BS) anyway he's getting his christmas bonus here within a week, and hes going to take the harddrive out of the 360 he has now and pop it into a new core system he's gonna get with the bonus.

that leaves a harddrive-less, tray-less 360 there for the taking, and he's offered it to me for like 40-50 bucks. i'm guessing its gonna cost about $100 to ship back to them to get fixed and sent back, then taking into account the $ i'd spend on getting it from my buddy, not to mention all the accessories i'd need. think it's worth it? at the very least i'd have one sitting in my room that i could buy stuff for a little bit at a time. i dont think i could do that from a gamers store lol

what'd you do if you were offered that? by the way, i'd appreciate it if people who don't like the 360 please refrain from posting here, thanks!
(never owned a console other than my psp or old game boy pocket, so i'd be glad to have anything new.)

Id BUY it!

You can get the accessory cables on newegg or amazon pretty cheap and unless im wrong the 360 uses a standard 2.5 inch HD so its simple to get one installed. As for the broken tray it cant be THAT hard to fix. Although im curious why wouldnt he give you the cables if he is getting a new system?

lol im sure he and i will come to an agreement seeing how i helped him build his last computer :)

i think i'll need to:
1. get a harddrive for it
2. get wifi for it
3. depending on the amt. of controllers he throws in, i might have to get 1 or 2 more
4. i'm pretty sure i'll have the necessary hookup cables to put it up to my tv, but just in case i'll try and factor that in
5. oh yeah, i'll see if i cant fix the loader myself, but it'd be nice to not void the warranty
6. games o.o

i'll see if i can't talk him down to $40 and see what he'd be throwing in

looks like i'll be getting a 360 then!

arg. im not feeling spending $100 to send it in to MS just to fix a loading tray problem, but i bet i'll have to. its most likely an electrical issue. it will spit the disk out while playing, then it wont read it when you push it back in. i'm not finding any relevant hits on google right now, but it might just be that im seeing red after this BS ticket i just got driving back from looking at prices for 360 accessories around town...

any help is appreciated

Yeah, you might pay more than you expect for the thing.
