360 into LCD

Post by stopthekilling77 »

okay im getting my 360 here soon, and i want to run it through my Samsung 216bw 21.6 inch LCD monitor. ( http://www.samsung.com/ca/products/moni ... ifications )

my questions are simple: what's my aspect ratio, considering the 360 was designed for either 16:9 or 4:3, correct? and if i'm out of whack, am i gonna experience issues?

also, what cables am i gonna need to hook up to this thing? i've never owned a console before so i want to do this right.

I'm not a console guru, but once you get all of those things worked out, see if you can get the Xbox-360 onto the network and fold a few for LR. :)

I did see a Hanns-G 28 inch monitor online and at best buy for around $500-$600..it has an hdmi port and speakers on it...assuming u have an hdmi cord with your 360 of course....i know i want that monitor just for the sheer size of it...and its viewing angle kicks the crap out of my samsung when i saw the display at best buy..its one alternative...i havent found an inexpensive monitor/tv in th at size range at that price. far as any other way im not sure

get a vga cable for it from playasia.com

its 6 bucks or so, and has the stereo (R+W) cables from it and if you get a better model it can come with optical out

looks perfect on my Benq 24" and my old Acer 19"

it will ask for options as to what resolution you want to run in the display menu

6 bucks+shipping well worth it

Purchase the official Microsoft VGA Cable. I've tried other brands and they usually either don't work or don't last very long.

after playing on the TV downstairs i'm NOT enjoying the resolution of it... its some Philips 36" regular old tv...

the images are all blurred and its near impossible to read the text without having a blistering headache.

i'm wondering if the resolution is gonna be worth it on my monitor

i think i found the right cable: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360vgahdcable/

anyone got anything to say about it?

yeah I'll try to help.

I'm running my Xbox 360 with a VGA cable, and it is connected to an NEC 20WMGX² display. So that display is a 16:10 aspect ratio, with a native resolution of 1680x1050. Also of note is the fact that this display has component, and composite inputs. It even has a built in TV tuner. However, it does not have HDMI input.

Originally I was connecting via component inputs and running with a slightly letter-boxed 720P output.

To get this working with the VGA cable all I had to do was go under Console Settings - Display - then select a resolution of 1280x768 (it automatically set it to "widescreen") and chose a "Reference Level" of Expanded to compensate for the slight difference in aspect ratio.

Personally, I like the result! Allot of the parts of the display, like my Gamer Picture are much clearer than at 720P. The downside of course is that find it easier to notice some alaising artifacts. :P

...my big problem will be waiting for the $ to get this darn cord!
I hear you. I had to wait to get quick computer job so I could afford it. My situation is, um "different", and I can't really take a regular job these days. So I have plenty of time now to play Xbox games and surf the web, just I don't have money to spend on things... :|

I also needed one other connector to get it all working. See that cable has RCA audio connectors. My speakers really needed a mini-DIN stereo plug. I had lots of different stuff (I've been working as a PC tech for years so I have a dresser full of cables, adapters,... you name it!). I just didn't have, or couldn't find, the one connector I needed. What I finally settled for was a "female/female" RCA connector, which ran me a grand total of $7.68 Radio Shack. That allowed me to use a cable with Male RCA to mini-DIN pugs to run my sound into my computer's speakers. And that allows me to listen to music from my computer, while I play a game, with a set of headphones, until 2am and I not disturb anyone. :P
