Hi there,
My system is a P4 2.8C, with an Asus P4P800-Deluxe.
I`m trying to decide on Ram. I`m not planning on Overclocking (...but it seems really tempting). I plan on using it mainly for video editing from DV. I`m interested in 1Gig of ram (2x 512 sticks).
Here in Canada I have a couple options. These 3 choices are approx the same price (about $115 Cdn from canadacomputers.com )
- Corsair Value select 512mb 3200
- Kingston 512mb 3200 (kvr400X64c3)
- Hynix 512mb pc3200
Or I can get....
- OCZ 512MBx2 CAS2.5 Dual Channel Premier "KIT" for about $40 more.
3 questions.
1. Is it worth the extra money to get the OCZ ?
2. When you buy a kit, you get "similar" ratings. Is a kit a pure marketing tool or is it worth it ?
3. If I went with the 1st 3 choices.... which one would you choose.
thanks in advance,
Allen
"Value" RAM Vs buying in a Kit.

If you're not into overclocking or an extreme gaming freak timings don't mean much to you. You are more than likely wanting a stable system to do your editing on.
I use Corsair and Kingston value memory in my systems that I build on the side and have yet to have a problem with either brand. Which tdo I buy? Depends which is cheaper that week. It varies a bit, but never more than a couple bucks.
As far as $40 more for OCZ? The last Corsair PC-3200 Value Select I had ran CL2.5 without issues.
Dual Channel kits are not just marketing hype. They do go under more testing and are "matched". Although when dual channel boards first came out memory wasn't in "kits" yet and I never had any stability issues.
