why is ddr333 used way more than ddr400 in laptops? is it a cooling issue or something?

most laptops are Centrino notebooks based off the Intel 855 chipset. DDR333 is the standard memory used on this chipset and since the BIOS lacks options for other memory frequencies that is all one can get. PC-2700 is by far the most popular DDR1 SO-DIMM on the market for that reason.

increasing frequency increases the power requirements for the memory, chipset, and cpu. Intel decided that the power requirements were more important than performance, so they opted for ddr333 until ddr2 came out.

Ram speeds on laptop ram more than ever never matters, because you can't change them in the bios, so 2-2-2-6 really doesn't mean anything so don't pay for faster ram unless you can change it in the bios.

As far as 2700 as aposed to 3200, Uhh.
