With DDR2 soon to be in the spot light I dug around and found some actual numbers from two major American memory companies: Corsair and Crucial.
Corsair 512MB PC4300 533MHz DDR2 XMS2 240Pin
Model #CM2X512-4300 - Lifetime Warranty
Operates at 533MHz @ JEDEC standard 4-4-4-12 latencies.
Cost for one 512mb module: $229.99
Crucial 512MB PC4300 533MHz DDR2 240Pin
Model #CT6464AA53E - Lifetime Warranty
Operates at 533MHz (Timings not yet published).
Cost for one 512mb module: $299.99
As you can tell the prices seem pretty high initially, but the prices have dropped from the $600-800 per module price that they were a few months ago.
For example let's look at the pricing on today's current speed champ from Corsair.
Corsair 512MB PC4400 550MHz DDR1 XMS2 184-Pin
Model #CMX512-4400 - Lifetime Warranty
Operates at 550MHz @ JEDEC standard 3-4-4-8 latencies.
Cost for one 512mb module: $225.00
Looks like the the whole concern over DDR2 memory being overpriced is false and in reality pricing is right on par to DDR1 memory at the same frequency. Crucial just recently released their pricing numbers, and I'm sure that their pricing will be adjusted more once more companies launch their lines.
Bring on Alderwood, LGA775, and DDR2!!!! It may not all have to break the bank afterall.

DDR-2 Pricing Not So Bad.
Yes the previous guesstimates of DDR-2 were pretty outrageous.
But more recent data indicates DDR-2 will not be double the price as
initially feared.
Get ready to rumble.....at 533 MHZ!
Nobody likes the idea of a 512MB DDR-2 stick north of $200.
Not Corsair, nobody.
The lower the price the better industry health for all.
DDR-2 sticks were very high prior to mass production launch but
such is the price for not just being 1st on the block, but first before
the block is even zoned or built.
DDR-2 was made available early to support industry development staff.
Those that bought at the very high price were probably writting
company checks to get some into a compatibility lab or do a little
reverse engineering to catch up.
Consumers and will find DDR-2 prices substantially more friendly.
in June when it really counts and you could have a DDR-2 MOBO in
hand at the checkout.

I think, I manage Corsair's channel sales in the US so I feel I can
help shed some credible light on this post.
