I'm wondering if anyone could shed some light on this...I have 4 gigs of Patriot ram..ddr2-800..same exact model number(PDC22G6400LLK) and all..except one pair of sticks(2x1gb) is NOT EPP rated..i got those almost a year ago..I bought an extra 2 gigs to go with it.only these were EPP rated..now ever since I installed all 4 of the sticks...id get random freezes or once in a while a BSOD..all run great when only 2gigs are installed though..my question is...would the EPP different cause that much of a hassle? Im running XP pro 64..runs fine for awhile but then when i run a game or sometimes surf the net..it freezes..some help would be great..

its possible EPP is causing it but I doubt it, run memtest on each stick. I think you may have a failing stick

it's weird cuz everything is perfect when its just 2 gigs of the same sticks..ill try the memtest route for sure though... i have a feeling its the epp difference...good thing is..the epp pair was only $89 at frys.com..when they're $120 with a rebate elsewhere...so i wont feel so bad bout gettin another pair..specially since ill have memory for another rig :D

Make sure you have EPP disabled in your BIOS.

I have not seen many MB's that will run with 4 modules at agressive settings and be 100% stable. I agree Disable EPP and even try the memory freuency at DDR667 with 4 modules, then you should have some margin to over clock the CPU to make up some of the difference.

Exactly what i was thinking. Make sure it's disabled.

Also, it might be that that motherboard just has problems running 4x1GB of memory, maybe it doesn't like 4x1GB of that Patriot memory, who knows? Stuff like this you'll only learn through trial and error.

I'm not sure if you tried this....
Run it on the EPP RAM only and see if you still have problems.
If you still have problems you probably have a bad stick, if not I would think it is the EPP difference.

Well to be honest it works great when its just either the non-epp-or the epp sticks in...but when both pairs are in...$h1t gets nutty..i mean...for a $230 mobo(at the time) , the d@mn thing should work with all 4 slots filled lol even though i know some boards are shifty when it comes to that...and honestly...i still havent seen an option to disable the epp in the bios...looked for the manual but all of times..i forget where i put it lol...i did take a look at the vendor list for my mobo and the brand isnt on there.there is a bios update (beta).i could try that...but either way..im hopin its the epp thing..if not and it wont work after a few tries im gonna be an unhappy camper for spendin money on 4 gigs lol...(least ill have enough memory for another rig )

You might try increasing the NB Voltage and the CPU Voltage about .2-.5 volts and or just set the memory frequency at DDR667.

EPP is called "SLI-Ready Memory" in the "Extreme Tweaker" page of your BIOS

Thanks for the tip there guys..and you too Kenc(always rocketing in out of nowhere to save the day:)..i looked at the "sli-ready memory" and as ive seen before..its been disabled the whole time ot be [email protected] i just got a new car so money isnt as grand as it was a week ago lol....its what happens when the transmission on the other car goes out and the mch wants $3000...so i go spend $20,000 lol(in payments of course)..well i guess im either stuck or i will try to grabd another 2gb kit with the epp and see how that goes..least those are only $90 at frys.com

Not to bring up an old post...but just wanted to update and say i got the 4 gigs to work...latest bios update did the trick

InspectahACE What OS are you using?

XP pro 32 bit right now...but it froze no matter what OS really...just know after updating to latest bios it worked and still does with no issues

now i have to just get an extra hard drive so i can do a dual boot for 64 bit ...
