recommendations please

Post by crazydiamond »

im lookin to get 4gb of ddr2 to pair up with amd 5000+ be.

i currently have 4x1gb a-data extreme pc6400 and it sucks IMO. ~ 730mhz 3-4-4-12, ~850mhz 4-4-4-12, ~930mhz 5-5-5-18 are its max's

im gonna be sellin this build and doin a similar build, but the only thing im undecided on is the ram.

do you think ill get better OC'ing out of these 2x2gb geil esotoria's:

or

4x1gb of some ballistix 'aa663' 667's

or

if anyone has any suggestions for 4gb under ~$135usd that would be cool too.

thanks in advance

Regardless of the brand, i would go with 2 x 2GB rather than 4 x 1GB. 4 dimms seem to cause problems more often when OC'ing or even using dividers.

thanks for the reply. thats what i have been hearing which is why i started to look at 2x2gb sets. it doesnt seem like there is many offerings for 2x2gb with cas4 so its hard to find reviews, but these esotorias are supposedly pretty good oc'ers. now even though i know that 2 sticks will likely be easier to OC, these ballistix 667s are field tested to be some bad @$$ oc'ers which is why i asked. ive had people tell me go w/ geil 2x2gb and other people tell me no question go w/ the 4x1gb ballistix. i take it you dont have any experience with either of these kits? man what a tough decision! ill probably end up flipping a coin again

Unless Geil has done some thing new I'd probably go the other way, I've had 3 set of Geil and they worked fine, but for OCing they bit me in the butt every time.

I just got these mushkins yesterday, and they went from ddr800-ddr1100 with no voltage increase and to 1206 with a very minor increase! Well before I updated bios they would only go to 930 but who cares :P.
