?? Will "Too Much" Memory Degrade Performance ??

Hello once more,
As I mentioned in a previous post I am planning to install 8GB and run Vista-64 (actually, Server 2008).
I'm hesitating on the 8GB now because I read on a couple other sites that "too much" memory can actually slow down a system. Can this be true and if so, under what circumstances might it be true?
Thanks much.

What do you plan to do with all of that memory? Unless you are doing some serious multi-tasking you are likely going to have much of it sit unused. And by most I mean 4 gigs of memory sitting there doing nothing.

Too much memory shouldn't degrade performance, but it is pulling voltage.
Anything over 4Gb ram is overkill for the average user. What do you plan on running that requires 8Gb ram?

I plan to use the machine as a Vista-64 test development machine as well as a SQL Server/Windows Server 2008.
I know it's probably overkill but God I just want it! May the OS never have to page again.
Thanks to everyone for the responses.
