Can my memory be holding me back from getting a stable overclock? It passes memtest, but i can't seem to overclock my q6600 past 3.2ghz. On prime it fails almost instantly on the blend torture test but seems to run forever on the small fft's. Currently rerunning the small fft's now see if it continues to run for a few hours+. If it runs till morning ill see if it will run the blend or large test. Any one have any ideas. the memory is g.skill pc6400 p# F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231148

It could definitely be your memory. I recently bought a new motherboard, CPU, and memory (OCZ) with the intent to significantly over-clock. Like you, I could not get a stable over-clock over a certain point; a point I knew I should be able to surpass. After countless attempts to tweak voltage and other BIOS settings, I concluded that my memory must be the culprit. I ordered a different kit (Corsair, to be precise), popped it in, increased my memory voltage up to 1.8, and was instantly able to get a perfectly stable 1.2Ghz overclock. It took me a while to feel comfortable about the over-clock, actually. It just seemed too easy. But it is working great.

So, if you have the resources to order a couple of kits to find a stable solution, I would recommend it. I know that every occasion is very different, but it worked great for me.

Just ordered ocz reaperx pc28500 from newegg. ill see how that works.

I had a similar situation with regards to memory holding back OC on my XBX2. By replacing the PC6400 with PC8500 I was able to keep my divider at 266/800 which makes my PC8500 run at 992mhz with my FSB at 330.
