?? Memtest86+ Interpretation ??

Hi all,

I just upgraded my memory from 1GB of PC-5300 to 8GB of PC-6400 and I was hoping someone might be able to explain some Memtest86+ results. My specific question is about the MHz reported on the third line of output shown below but any other comments are appreciated, of course.

With 1GB of PC-5300 installed, here is what Memtest86+ reported:

Code: Select all

Memory : 895M 1665 MB/s
Chipset : AMD K8 (ECC : Disabled)
Settings: RAM : 351 MHz (DDR703) / CAS : 5-5-5-15 / DDR-2 (64 bits)
Notice the 351 MHz on the third line, above.

With 8GB of PC-6400 installed, here is what Memtest86+ reported:

Code: Select all

Memory : 8063M 2681 MB/s
Chipset : AMD K8 (ECC : Disabled)
Settings: RAM : 401 MHz (DDR803) / CAS : 6-6-6-18 / DDR-2 (128 bits)
In comparing the first line of output from each test, I'm glad to see the PC-6400 memory is faster (1665 MB/s vs. 2681 MB/s). I believe (please correct me) this is the transfer rate from memory to...the L1 or L2 or CPU. I'm not exactly sure.

The third lines have me more confused. PC-5300 is supposed to run at 667 MHz while PC-6400 should run at 800 MHz. Are the third lines of output telling me the PC-5300 is only running at 351 MHz while the PC-6400 is only running at 401 MHz? If so, why would this be? Is my interpretation wrong?

Thanks

its because thats the bus speed of the memory. this is before it is multiplied by 2 to get the effective transer rate, which is 800mhz (as shown in the parenthesis)
