Corsair 3200XL Xpert Testing

Post by deadly-app »

Whooah! Such odd stuff! ddr400 with 2-2-2-5 timings.

Now that i have my watercooling up, I started overclocking, see where I can go with this stuff and my A64 3400+ clawhammer.

Soooo On we go.
Started out with a normal 220 htt, but forgot to set the ratio to 1:1, so i had ram at 400 and cpu at 2400.

Went back to bios, upped it to 230 htt and put the 1:1 divider on, left all voltage and timings the same.

Didn't boot.
Gave the mem a volt boost to 2.7, still nothing, 2.9 and a 110% increase of the cpu voltage(1.64 currently, while ram is at 2.8) and it would boot into windows stable. Idle temps of 33 C. Temps showing on the Xpert are 22.8 C

Now the odd part about this. Got into windows, loaded up CPU-Z, smart guardian, and the Corsair Mem Dashboard(comes with the xpert line so you can program for it).

Corsair mem dashboard has errors, reads that there is no memory in the slots, wtf :?

Just reloaded it, now it shows up fine...

CPU-Z also shows absolutely no info :?
Restart it! voila! its there? err wtf... lol.

So we are currently at 230mhz on the ram! what does that translate too..460? not bad eh. Cpu is at 2.5 and i feel that i have plenty of leeway left. Timings @ 2-2-2-5 still.

Whats a safe voltage for the CPU?

Edit: Quick Everest bench shows:
Before @ 200mhz: Read: 3122 MB/S Write :1305
Now @ 230mhz : Read: 3535 MB/s Write: 1281? rerun - 1310...still not much change...am i missing something here? Oh well, back to bios, lets keep going.

On another note, latency testing in Everest shows my timings at 2-2-5-2? Lol. 47.3 ns lat :D

Bah! I can go no farther!

Tried upping to 240mhz without change, nothing, wouldnt work at all, instant bsod.
loosened timings to 3-3-3-6, still wouldnt go. Upped dram to 2.9V and Cpu to 113% VID increase...still nothing. tried isolating the problem by running the mem @ 200mhz rather then the 240, still wouldnt go... So I'm pinning this on my CPU...

I couldn't do 235 either :\, oh also tried 240 x 10, wouldnt work either.

was trying to figure out how to make the ram divider so the ram is higher then fsb...if thats possible, i have the dfi lanparty ut 250gb, so if anyone could help me on that ;D i couldnt find it in ram ratio options, as they are all smaller mem vs. fsb. IE 9:10, 3:4, 1:2, etc.

so im running at 2.5 ghz rinow @ 50 C load top, 1.66 v @ the cpu, 2.89 @ the ram, ram running around 25 C
Oley! me needs help.

wheeeee, 250x9 it is!
ram is running very stable, and the cpu is at 2250mhz. we will try pushing it a bit farther no?
loosened the timings to 2-3-3-5, could have prob kept them at 2-2-2, but meh.

Everest scores:
read: 3755
Write: 1375
Lat: 49.1 ns @ 2-3-5-3 listed.

IT WANTS MOREEEE O NOESSSS

270mhz, cpu divide at 8.5 and running at 2295 mhz.

still 2.9 dramv and 2-3-3-6
im giong to try tightening the timings back to 2-2-2-5 and upping the freq to 280 :D

Man thoes are still some impressive numbers, even if the memroy wont hit over 270 i think you can call it a successful overclock.

Haha, took a gander at newegg today to see what timings were on ddr550 sticks.

3 sticks come up that are 512mb in size and ddr550(PC 4400)

Mushkin extreme, 2.5 CL $125
PQI Turbo, 3-4-4-8 $123
Geil, 2.5-4-4-7 $121

Lets give a gandar at ddr 533 now
OCZ, 2.5-3-3-8 $135
geil ultra, 3-4-4-8 $134
pqi turbo, 3-4-4-8 $102

Corsair Xpert, 1gb 2-2-2-5 : $265

I still havent found a single 512 stick though :(
but if you find it... cool beans! just realize you can get these babies way up there :D

I am able to OC my Corsair XMS3200XLPRO's to 250Mhz (DDR500) @ 2.5-3-3-6 @ 2.8v stable. They make some good RAm although some people have issues with the DFI NF4 boards and Corsair. :| I haven't had tome to try to push them further but I have a feeling I'd have to kick up the voltage and I'd rather not.
