New 2gb ram kit problems

Post by xevious »

I recently got the crucial ballistix 2 gb kit and want to use it with my ocz platinum rev 2 2 gb set. both are rated cas4 and ddr2 800.

when i put both in i got memtest errors. with was at 2.1v and 4-5-5-15
i then set the bios to auto voltage and 5-5-5-15 and still errors.
then i tried just the ballistix with same settings and at ddr2 825. it seems to work. but when i bumb to 826, errors in memtest.

so what do i do to be able to use both sets?

CPU-Z results.

would it be better to just use this ram at ddr2 1000 as in enhanced perf prof 2? since my ocz didnt work too well above ddr2 900

So when they were both in and running at 800Mhz they errored in memtest?

Don't use the 1000Mhz settings, they don't work. I think I fried a 800mhz ballistix set by trying to run them at the 1000Mhz things on that page.

Actually I first tried them together on the previous settings, so around 830. I didnt try at 800 with both sets

Btw the crucial is the new set (BL2CP12864AA80A ) that is supposed to work much better than the previous version.

If they fail Memtest together, trying running them one by one to isolate out the bad stick. Seems that you have a bad stick of RAM.

Crucial quality hasn't been that good I believe, so don't run them at DDR1000. Also, manually set the voltages and timings in BIOS.

I did auto settings timings and rating bu 1.8v and its became 5-5-5-18 at ddr2 974 and no errors. so it seems that the crucial ram is pretty nice.
(only crucial tested so far)

Try adding +.1v to the NB and make sure you have the command rate set to 1T for 4 sticks of ram

To the NB? how would that help the ram stability? And you're saying make it 1T for all four sticks or just while playing with the crucial?

Sorry, i should have said 2T (its a memory timing)

The "nb" is the northbridge (chipset). This is the memory controller and using 4 sticks of ram is more stressful for it. Adding +.1v might get things stable.

ok, but i currently have nb set at auto, what should i make it?
the crucial is 2T, and i beleive the ocz was 2T as well. I dont know how to change that part of the timing in bios even if its not.

I believe for your board it would be 1.55V.
