Transcend is doing very little to combat the fake memory market, Transcend themselves distribute fake memory be it by accident or not, bottom line is I received memory from Transcend for my laptop which I had a problem with after installation.

After spending some time with technical support to no avail I ended up sending the memory back to Transcend, they claimed that the memory I sent back was not theirs. This Transcend memory came sealed in the Transcend original heat sealed package had the Transcend hologram on it and the white sticker with memory specifications on it, that didn’t do me any good, the memory ended up being something else.

According to Transcend I purchased two 1GB/533MHz modules, which I did. When I received the modules and put them in my laptop, my laptop recognized them as two 256MB/400MHz modules. After sending them back, Transcend said I sent them two 128MB/400MHz modules that weren’t even theirs. Transcend even sent me pictures of the modules I sent back to them. After looking at the pictures they look like the same modules I received from them and then sent back to them.

The sad thing is I bought it directly through Transcend online, so much for trying to avoid surprises. I am out of around $300 because of Transcend, and I can’t do anything about it.

As far as I am concerned Transcend cant be trusted to do business with and I wouldn’t recommend this company anyone. I suggest that people go do business elsewhere, just to be safe rather than sorry afterwards, like me.

I've actually worked with Transcend for a number of years and this news is shocking. Can you please post the pictures they sent you or send them to me and I'll host them on the server.

I'm sorry to hear of the problems you had! The "fake" memory market is getting really bad these days. The sad this is that it's made at the same places "real" memory is made at. Amazing what goes out the back door and what people do when the bosses are not looking.

Also, send us a pic of your invoice and a copy of the communications you had with them. If this is a true story (not doubting you) then maybe us putting some p[ressure on them can help you get this resloved.

I will send all the info I have, including the pictures Transcend sent to me and the pictures I took of the Transcend memory they sent back to me. Transcend did however remove all stickers from the memory, unclear to me why, maybe because they did not want to have their name associated with fake memory, but since I am bitter and out of money I rather think that they did it to cover up their mess.

What email address should I send the info to? There are a number of them I found on the site and don’t want to bug anyone by sending it to the wrong one.

I had no idea that "fake memory" was even a problem at all! Thanks for the heads up. Hope you get the problem figured out.

The problem is not limited to memory, earlier this year an entire batch of AMD processors were stolen, and before that there was a huge problem with video cards being mislabeled.....so make sure you get and keep reciepts and invoices, and deal only with reputable people.

Yikes! I knew this about processor which is part(if not main reason) they locked the multiplier. You cant up the multiplier and say it is a faster chip. I didnt know this extended to other products as well. This REALLY sucks! With fake hardware and DRM in our future things are beginning to look really grim.

Sorry for your loss. I hope the admins here can help you get somthing out of it! I know OCforums has a 0 tolerance for bad vendors. Nice to see something similar here.
