Beating the page file

Is it possible to force Windows to only use RAM by getting huge amounts of RAM (2GB+) and creating a RAM disk in the second GB? Then tell Windows that the pagefile is located on the RAM disk...no more slow-ass paging!

Unfortunately, NO!

NTFS is a paging file system! Not sure what that means, :? but read it somewhere... NTFS uses several types of cache.. pagefile is just 1 type

Anandtech done a review on Gigabyte's iRAM (not sure if that's what your using, but same ballpark)

It would seem more beneficial to use that ram for your whole system, than using as a ram disk

Yes, it is possible.

No, you will not experience any performance boost. Windows XP handles paging quite well, and if you plenty of ram free, it won't slow you down by using your hard drive rather than a ram drive.

actually its possible to create a ramdisc drive with tweak-xp pro. it also allows to make lots of other xp optimizations that boost windows performance.

Activate hudreds of hidden Windows settings, clean your registry, activate system restrictions, block popups, block banner ads, get detailed system information, create a RAM Disc Drive, protect your privacy by cleaning your harddrive, repair zip files, manage TrueType fonts, improve your internet connection, optimize your CPU, optimize your RAM, and much more ...

IF you create a ram drive via tweakxp etc., you have less system ram!

What Sovereign is talking about is putting page file into a ram disk (using tweakxp?).. That won't increase performace much as you have less ram available for progs, os ect.

ntfs uses your c: drive for caching, this is not just the pagefile..

I included anand's link as even with a real ram drive, they didn't get that much real world performance... Using tweakxp etc. would be alot less..

I have tried it with 2GB of pc800 ram in my old system.. in my opinion it's no good..... infact greater chance of file corruption...
