Memory Clarification, Please

I know, more questions from the newb.... I am truly trying my best to educate myself more on the technical side of computers, which is to say that there's more to'em than just pushing the power button.

I just read an article posted back on Dec. 24th 2005 regarding the future of memory. I also read the proceeding postings of questions and answers and am now more confused than ever about memory. Can someone please explain in layman's terms single channel and dual channel memory to me? The benefits of both and/or the supperiority of one over the other? How can I get the best performance out of my memory (Corsair TWINX1024 Dual Channel DDR2 400).

there was a perfect pic a couple threads back showing 4 lane highway going both ways, NORTH AND SOUTH! Basically that is what it does, one channel (one stick) is for your "in" data and the other channel (other stick) is your "out" data.

single channel is on the very left and dual channel would be on the right where it splits



You are basically splitting the work load on the data moving through the ram so i can move through faster.

the FSB(front side bus) would be how fast the cars are moving on the road.
Also think of quality in ram as quality in a road. You can drive fast on a gravel road without loosing control and crashing can ya?
