Question about memory for socket AM2

If I get an AM2 board and processor, I'll be getting a single core for starters, which means from what I've read that it'll only run the DDR2-667. If I were to put in a stick rated at DDR2-800, would it default to the slower 667 speed and still be usable, or do I have to get a stick rated at 667?

I ask because I'll probably get an X2 eventually, and I don't really want to buy memory twice.

woah... didn't see this post... you can get any memory over 667MHz and run it at that if it's needed. I'd highly suggest getting at least 800MHz memory as that is what all the higher end AM2 and Core 2 Duo processors will be running at... Good job looking into the future before you buy something!

I thought I was smart too.

I was pretty sure it would have been compatible, but it's good to have confirmation.
