What Memory For Overclocking

Post by DMB2000uk »

Im hoping to build a conroe system come september, with any luck it'll be before then.

But when I get this baby I will want to overclock it alot :P

I am aiming to get 3.33Ghz out of a E6600 (aka the 07 Conroe EE) and as such would need a 370Mhz FSB.

Now I'd love to be able to run the RAM at a 1:1 ratio, so would need memory that clocks to 740Mhz, being the cheapskate that I am a student, I would like the memory to be PC2-5400.

So I was wondering, what memory would you guy's recomend for me to get that can overclock that much.

Woops, forgot to add that I'm looking for a 2 x 512MB setup!

And do you think it would make more sense to get a 800Mhz setup and underclock it?

Due to the constraints of the onboard memory controller, Conroes don't gain that much from faster RAM. Value DDR2-667 modules run quite good. That said, if you need to have the absolute best, performance DDR2-1000+ is the way to go.

Since you are cheap, I mean, a student, DDR2-667 is probably the better way to go, especially if you can overclock it to DDR-766. Just wondering, why 2x512 though?
