DDR2 - 675 vs 800 Question(s)

Post by AgentJ »

Hey! So, im still looking at memory/motherboards. The E6300 looks like a good choice for me, although motherboard still remains undetermined.

However... now im in a bit of a predicament memory speed wise. Price vs Performance to be exact. Here's what im looking at:

PC2 6400 (DDR2 800)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820145590

PC2 5400 (DDR2 675)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820145015

As you can see, big price difference. However, are there any real-world tests/results between the 675 + 800 speed memory, and anything considerable to justify the higher price?

If 800 does (or in future games) gives a considerable boost vs the 675, I guess I'll just have to spend the extra dough and skimp somewhere else.

Any reccomendations would be cool. I've been looking at Patriot, Corsair, and some of the other name brands. Been staying away from OCZ just because they are having (from reviews at least) bad compatibilty issues.

Well, that does it. Looks like im going E6300 and spending the extra dough on some 800 mhz memory :) (Now just cruzin for a good NF5 SLI motherboard... or maybe that AW9D if it ever gets to stores.)

Appriciate the article link Ap.
