okay so I kinda got bored and am awaiting for the arrival of xp so I can finally get using my new PC when the thought hit me.. what if I put the HD with xp and all my programs into my new computer? But then I was thinking.. the technology on this computer is soo old.. it probably won't work. This PC is actually from 1999 but it's slightly upgraded.. like 8gb memory and 256 RAM (up from 3gb and 64). It was an old school computer I got for free when they upgraded. The HD in it is obviously PATA, and my new pc is rigged up for SATA. the one IDE port I have hooked up for the dvd drive. Anyhow, is it even possible to do something like take the HD out of a pc and put it into another one that has a HD and copy the files onto that HD?

When I tried it (yes I did try haha) I got it to say how do you want to start up windows.. but after you click normally or w.e it goes to bsod saying stuff about the HD

well its probably because the hardware has changed XP freaked out. Usually does that. I would say pop the drive in as a slave once you get all teh stuff for the new rig, and take the files off or whatever you need

ah.. well see the thing is, I was trying to cheat, I just ordered xp from the school free the other day, and I didn't want to wait, so I was trying to get it off this HD onto my new one
