i got a 2gb kit of patriot ddr2-800 ram timed at 4-4-4-12...but cpu-z sees it at 5-5-5-15...i manually set it to the 4-4-4-12..but the system gets unstable so i left it at auto..im at a loss here...i was thinkin its the mobo since it was the only piece in my system that wasnt more than $150...but im not gonna keep that assumption since cost isnt always the factor of somethin wrong lol..any ideas?

What memory voltage have you set?
Try 2.0v and see how that helps! If it doesn't, try adding .1v more to the chipset (MCH).

isn't there something about running intel chips that you can't get the ram to do cas 4? and only can with amd chips, thats the only real advantage to getting an amd chip at the moment. Because the Amd chips have a better memory controller, or something like that. correct me if i'm wrong.

wtf lol..i set the voltage to 2.0 and manually set the ram at 4-4-4-12 for $hits and gigglez..and now i see in cpu-z that it ssayin the timings are at 3-4-4-20 with 2:3 divider it looks like...arghhh

you need to make srue taht the voltage matches what the ram's specs. If you cant get it to work well, try to update the bios.

they at the voltages Patriot says they should be at..(2.2v) set it at 4-4-4-12 again and its still showin 3-5-5-20.....couldnt find a bios update tho :/

Are you manually setting the timings after you set the voltage?
Try setting the timings to SPD settings, then reboot back into the bios and set them manually.

yes i manualyl set them after i set the voltage..but i am a lil confused on what ya mean by settin them to SPD settings tho

SPD is using the bios default settings!

thats what i figured after i signed off to look...sorry lol.i did what ya mentioned kenc..but its still not lookin like its doin it...i took these screen grabs to show what cpu-z says to show if im doin anythin wrong from it if possible

well after more digging..i found that the SPD timings are intially 5-5-5-15..but says they were tested at 4-4-4-12 at 2.2v and after adjusting the timings manually im still comin up at 3-4-4-20...which looks better but i dunno lol damn it...im sure its not a real big issue..but it bothers me that i paid $250 for this kit to run at 4-4-4-12 and im not gettin it..

3-4-4-20 is better than 4-4-4-12!!!!
Check your bios for TRAS and change that to 12 your currently at 20
TRAS doesn't give much performance, but CAS does!
Are you planning to OC the ram past 400? If so, change the CAS to 4 (currently on 3)

well then lol..the TRAS has been set at 12 in the bios the whole time so why its 20 ill never know...im not plannin on OC'ing anytime soon..just was weirdin out why the sticker on the ram an all say those timings but wasnt gettin them...anyhow...kenc..ur the man..you've helped me out alot..thanks:)

NP.
But you should try lowering the TRAS anyway! If it doesn't set to 12, try around ~14. But even then I doubt you'll see any improvements.......mayby ~8mb/sec in Sandra benchmarks

ill give it a shot..maybe not much improvment but long as its stable lol..it will make it look better anyway..

.thanks again

i do think its the mobo though(either that or somethin lol)....i was just messin around...i put the TRAS at 14 in the bios and it went up to 22 in cpu-z...so i figured id try somethin and go way below in the bios..the bios let me go down to 4 on the TRAS...and now cpu-z says i got 3-4-4-12 at 800 mhz ddr2....now...so far its stable LOL...whether how much better who knows..but if it doesnt hurt the ram at stock speeds then im all for it...im just glad it works at the timings u helped me with ken

Your welcome......I'm glad you got it sorted!
But that's just cazy
But as you said, if it's stable......who cares?
You should run "Orthos" blend test for a while to be sure it's stable
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/385
also 2x instances of superpi 32M tests
