I'm not a huge believer in SLI, and think its overblown. Go with an Ultra and a high end video card, you won't notice much of a difference while playing games, as when you get to a certain point your eyes just can't tell the difference.
To me, SLI is too expensive and more hype and "benchmark envy" than anything else.
The SLI-D supports SLI as well, but without the extra 4 sata-1 ports with RAID5 support that the SLI-DR has.

Also, as far as I can tell all Ultra-D boards are still moddable, though apparently the newer ones have more plastic on the chipset which has to be scraped off or something.

After talking to DFI, their Ultra boards have not been moddable for quite awhile. they "took steps" to prevent people from modding them to work with SLI. Exactly what those steps are is unclear, but they seem pretty confident that it can't be done without damaging the risk of damaging equipment

Hm, I just checked out the DFI-Street forums, and it looks like they just covered up the contacts with epoxy, so it's still possible, but much less noob-friendly.

Post detailing all the extra work, and a pic showing epoxy coverage:

hmm, did all he have to do was bridge those two connections on the PCB with circuitwriter? The pic made it look a little simplified, even after reading the thread, just sounded tedious and in need of someone with a lot of patience, that's all I gotta say, lol :axe:

Yeah, I got my Ultra-D board a while ago without the epoxy, and I surprised how easy it was.

Probably took you no longer than the cure time to be back up and running on that end then; sounds like DFI didn't take the complete precautions after all. Where there's a will there's a way, especially in modding :)
