I just posted an article that tested three Corsair kits on memory on a DFI Lanparty SLI motherboard and I suggest taking a look at it here: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/268/1/

I should also point out that DDR2 will not work on any AMD platforms right now as the memory controller in the AMD Athlon CPU's doesn't support DDR2, so the Corsair 5400UL memory kit your buddy suggested wont work or even plug in for that matter.

I also have a review of the Crucial PC-4000 memory that you mentioned located here: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/262/1/ that is also worth a read.

From those two articles written by rich the Crucial PC-4000 or Corsair PC-3500LL look to be some of the best right now to buy.

Oh... Welcome to the forums and I hope you find that our small community can help you out!
