Chaintech VNF4 Ultra doesn't clock bios correctly

Post by dgood »

I updated my bios to fix a video card/gaming freeze that was ocurring. So I updated form v 1.0 to v 1.5 and now it games great, except in the process, my 2gigs of pc3200 (ddr 400 ram) magically became clocked at 333 and when clocked at 400 it would not start. What to do? try v 1.4? or whats your ideas? Thanks in advance for any help offered I've had many issues with my new computer but it will rule lots when finally to full capacity.as is I did get a 6580 in 3dmark05.

What A64 4000 do you have, because the older cores could not always run that much memory at 1t 400mhz.

4000+ san diego, the new core

also it is at 2t that I am not getting the normal 400, it is proven that in most games at high res that 2t and 1t don't make a very large increase in performance.

Is it 2x 1GB sticks or 4x 512mb sticks?

on the original bios I ran all 4 at 400mhz

Post by dgood »

on the original bios I ran the 4 sticks at 400mhz, but that may have been the problem. I would like to know if there is a way to get it running stable at 400mhz though.

Seriously?? Why would you have to bump down to 333mhz? Seems like you would just have to change to 2T...

Ok...I'm still new to AMD....(only just switched over)
But wasn't there a limitation with amd, where you could only run 4x sticks @ 333MHz and comnnad rate of 2T?
But didn't a newer revision allow 4 sticks @ 400MHz??
Or is it the mobo/chipset that decides this?
I know ATI's chipset allows you to run 4x 512mb sticks @ 400MHz with 1T (with no OC)

dgood --> I'm not sure :?
I think you should be able to run 4x 400MHz with a 4000+
Have you set 2T command rate? Could it be that you have set 1T so it defaults to 333MHz????
Mayby reflash your bios?
?

:edit:
Sorry your on 2T

It's prettymuch mostly all on the processor, not the motherboard chipset because the AMD Athlon 64 K8 architecture integrates the memory controller onto the chip. So depending on the revision of the AMD processor, it will determine what memory configurations you can run. If you have the latest E4 or E6 revision processor, then (as far as I know) you should be able to run 4 sticks of RAM, each in dual channel, at 400mhz, but probably with 2T. Although the DFI NF4 SLI Expert claims to be able to run 4 DIMM's at 1T....

I concede

windows won't boot when I put it at 400mhz, I tried all versions of bios, if windows does then games won't run correctly and neither will 3dmark. so I give up, it is stable and running good at 333mhz and I just wish my cpu/mobo would support all 4 dimms of 512mb dual channel at 400mhz. so it goes. -dgood

You don't need extra performance with a beauty of a system like that
Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2300MHZ =3650+ Stock Voltage
eVGA GF6800GS 485/1200.
2x512 Corsair XMS 3200LLPT
AsRock 939-Dualsata2
Sweex 400WATT 18amps
Dual layer DVD-RW
2x80GB seagate Barracuda!!!!
