Hi all,
I've just read lots of reviews of the DFI LANParty NF4 SLI-DR and it sounds good. I'm about to renew all my pc and I think I will buy one of these motherboards. But personnaly I prefer ATI to NVIDIA and I would like to know if it's possible to mount an ATI Crossfire on this motherboard instead of the NVIDIA SLI (this having a stable system).
If you know something about that or tried yourself please tell me.
Radeon X850XT on DFI LANParty NF4 SLI-DR
Well I asked because I saw on the Corsair XMS XPERT 3200XL memory review that the testing was made with an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro on a DFI Lanparty UT. So I suppose using only one graphic card will not be a problem.
I'll wait for a test of Crossfire on a nF4 chipset to decide and althought for the Ati's R520 release to decide (hope this will really be on jully 26th
). By then there will surely be more reviews about this and maybe X850XT price will fall...... (wow think I'm dreaming now)

DFI will be coming out with their own ATI crossfire LanParty boards from what I"ve seen. They should be out at about the same time as the crossfire cards, I hope anyway.
From what I've heard, the crossfire system will only work with the ATI chipset, SLI and Crossfire are not compatible or interchangable with each other, although single cards from either company will work in either board...........

I think I'll be waiting then, better this way, I'll have more time to look for cooling systems. I've just visited nanoCoolers.com and the liquid metal coolers seem impressive. I've send an email to them to get more infos, if you want I'll tell you when they reply. I think it won't be cheap but I don't waste money just for asking.
No....a lot of people thought the 925X and XE would support dual core, and it eventually did not, leaving a lot of people pretty pissed off.
Imagine if you will, some of us going out and buying a $260 ABIT Fatility board, thinking it would hold you over for 9-12 months, then finding out a few weeks later that it indeed was not going to support dual core processors.

posting at the street a lot, i've not heard of any nf4 Crossfire chipsets. the only ones that willl support crossfire are the ATI chipsets. and i'd personally wait till this spring to buy an ATI chipset DFI mobo as ATI's new chipset is going to be nf4 caliber in performance and tweaking.
there won't be any combination of SLI and Crossfire as they both have totally diferent techniques for implementing dual vid cards.
SLI uses the coordinance method. as in it take either top and bottom or left and right parts of the screen and sends those parts of the screen to each vid card to render.
ATI uses, whats been called "a more effecient way" of implementing dual vid cards. they take the interlaced approach. every resolution on our displays have horizontal lines. if you're running a resolution of 1280 then you 1280 horizontal lines on your display. what Crossfire does is to take every other line and send them to one or the other video card to render.
two totally different ways that are incompatible with each other. and if you ask me, i think thats the way ATI and vNidia like it.
also, running SLI/Crossfire is topping out the chipset/cpu bandwidth. at this point it's the bottleneck of the dual vid card system. that's why SLI/Crossfire only uses x8 PCIe vid bus. also you'll notice very little difference when running a single vid card and changing the PCIe vid bus from x16 to x8 speed.
this is why the new platform would be best to wait for. it'll be along very shortly. it's the new A64 M2 940pin socket using the REV.F memory controller and running on a 333mhz (DDR667) HT Bus. the M2 cpu will have a DDR2 memory controller and support DDR2-667 memory. also, included with the newly aquired bandwidth, will come along a new chipset with True Dual x16 SLI/Crossfire. also, the new x16 cards will have Dual GPU's on them. so this video card solution in concert with the new chipset and M2 A64 cpu's, will be the bleeding edge hardware to get sometime this year.
