Asus A8NSLI nVidia chipset Download Problem - what to do?

Post by abrogard »

Hope this is in the right forum. I've got an AMD Athlon 64 3200 on an Asus A8NSLI board, which has the nvidia chipset.

I've got major troubles downloading. If I can download at all it will usually be corrupt when I get it and try to use it. Often I can't even download. The screen flickers and the page remains the same when I click 'download'.

Searching around I've seen many mentions of this problem and many people ascribe it to a problem with the nvidia firewall, built in.

Well, I'm not even using the firewall, but I can see it is there and it is active inasmuch as it keeps sending me messages saying it is not active and I'm therefore in danger.

I'd like to get rid of it, or fix the problem somehow.

Anyone got any ideas?

regards,

ab :)

Try using the other LAN port, the NV firwall only works on the NForce chipset, the other LAN port run off a Marvell PCI chip.

So that would be the Ethernet Controller that my device manager shows a big yellow question mark on?

I vaguely think I disabled it in the BIOS for some reason - following advice from the web when I first got the board, maybe, I did some of that. Advice not really meant for me but meant for dead-serious bigtime overclockers and gamers. I screwed up a bit there.

I will look into that. Thanks.

Right next to it there's a yellow question mark against a USB controller, too - which is strange to me because my USB is working fine - it's a USB mouse I'm using all the time.

So maybe the A8NSLI has two USB controllers as well as two Ethernet controllers?

I tried to fix the problem yesterday by downloading the latest nvidia drivers and installing them. The machine would stay up for two minutes, max and then blue screen and reboot...

Managed to rollback two days so I'm still in business, but... whew...
