Greetings, I have an asus m3a mobo with an Athlon 64 x2 6400+, 2 1gb kingston hyperx ddr2 1066 (pc2 8500), geforce 8800gt 512 mb pci-e x16, sata hd
my questions is, my bios, what do I set everything to make the best use of everything, but not seriously overclock it. especially my ram. in 3dmark 6, i am only getting 12000 score, while systems of lesser value are kicking my butt.
everything in my mobo bios is set to auto at the moment. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Greg

this is different for everysystem. although they may have the same part, every computer system is like a snowflake, completely unique, the only thing you can do is mess around with it.

Your 1066 ram is running at 800. Can you change the ram divider in AMD systems or just set it to 1066MHz? Although, speeding up the ram will not make a dent in your 3DMark score.
Your best bet to increase that score is to 1) overclock your video card, 2) overclock your cpu.

Re: I r stupid to bios
I have the same mobo and cpu, 12000 is about right for an AMD system with that configuration. The difference your probably talking about is the difference between AMD and Intel, Intel currently runs better in Multimedia. Similar speed Intel systems can crank 14000 with the same video card. As far as the AMD system you have it's right in line with what it's supposed to do.
The similar systems you see on ORB the online data base for 3dmark aren't all that similar, the ones above me are usually dual video card systems, or heavily over clocked on the cpu and gpu. Most aren't even the same motherboard so it's not really a good guide to go by.
Like I said though with the same motherboard and cpu and gpu I get 12000 on 3dmarks so your alright where you are. You won't get your ram to run any faster without over clocking your cpu so I'd let it run at that. Overclocking our cpu leads to a lot of heat, which is hard to deal with.

Re: I r stupid to bios
Hi there DDR2 1066 is supported by AM2+ CPU on that board so you need to get a Phenom CPU to run at the 1066 thats why it's at 800mhz
AM2 64 3800+ Dual 65w, ASROCK ALIVEXFIRE-ESATA2, 2 GB GeIl 6400 DDR2 Ultra @ 4.4.4.12, HIS X1650XT iSilenceII, SATA II 320 HDD. All at stock
Re: I r stupid to bios
You can hit 1066 on the board stable by OCing it as well, I've hit 1066 with Mushkin and OCZ Reaper using an X2 CPU.
