Asus A8S-X Board? WTF

so my good friend just ordered a whole new set of parts a 3700+, the A8S-X Mobo, A 7800 gt (evga), and is trying to run 1.5gb of ram on the boar (3x512mb). with a 500 watt power supplly I believe. and a 200gb hd. So he's having some serious issues and I was unable to help him by flashing hte bios and changing ram speeds, etc. thinking those might be the problems, because those were the problems I encountered with my nf4 ultra and my 4000+. So ANy ideas? the games lock up immediatly if anything strenuous happens. 3dmark 05 wont' do anything but try to load the first sequence and then freeze up. It makes a pop sound or something along those lines. We want to know if its the ram, the psu, or the hd. He tried changing the hd, and it didn't make a difference, still unstable, (didn't think it was the problem anyway.) Tried ram, I thought it'd be the problem, having it clocked too fast for 3 dimms cuz ram controlers suck on 939s usually when using more than 2 dimms. So We tried using only two at 1gb and moving them around and putting em where the manual said to. We finally got it to load 3dmark05 but still wouldn't go further than the loading screen. So we think the motherboard is the problem. Its a SIS Chipset. What do you think? (sorry for the long post)

Get rid of the SIS chipset ASAP and don't tell your friends you bought one!

He bought the board because it's $71, but if you notice in our system building guide that our budget AMD system uses the $79 nForce4 SLI chipset. For an extra few bucks you get SLI, an nVIdia chipset, and a chipset that is optimized for the nVidia card that they are using...

My suggestion change the board and your friend will be happy.

I figured, but can we rma to get money back?

I told him sis is bad chipset, and that nf4 is best for gf7800, but I do hate nvidia's almost monopoly. However, good they make the best chipset. I told him to get a new mobo, but I wanted to makesure thats the problem. I didnt' make that mistake though I bought the worst nf4 out there I think in the nf4 ultra from chaintech. but I already had a long thread on that crap. Thanks if anyone else thinks of another reason however feel free to post. Thanks again I'll pass it along.
