I have an MSI K8N Neo2 motherboard. About a week ago, I started to notice that one of my fans would occasionally make a funny buzzing noise like the bearings were "out of whack" or something.

I looked at all of my fans and realized it was a small fan directly on my motherboard. I'm assuming this fan is on the chipset.

Anyway, as the days went on, the consistency of this noise picked up and finally the fan just stopped spinning altogether.

Does anyone know of a good replacement fan I can buy to use in place of this dead one?

Also, is it safe to continue running my PC without this fan spinning until a replacement arrives? What sort of damage can occur from this?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

the NF4 runs real hot i would not run it with out a chipset fan. as to a replacement.... i cant think of one unless you can find that zalman or alphacool but i think both were discontinued.

i dont know any specific solutions. you have several options though. first you can go to MSI's website and look on their forums for some info.

In the past, i have asked http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/index.html for a product that they sell that would work. they have always been very helpful.

ive got the same problem with my IC7-MAX3, different board and chipset but the same problem the fan starts buzzing and spins at lower RPM.

The way to fix it is to remove the fan only, peel of the sticker at the back and apply some lubrication (oil of some sort) into the centre axis...saying that it is not a permanent fix.. cause ive completley removed mine now!

I have an abit board and the northbridge hsf pooped on me. i tried just taking the fan off...didnt work too well. You probably can try and RMA the board. but a 30-40 aftermarket hsf is probably better for cooling and save you money/time than doing the rma

I would rather avoid having to RMA the board, even if it still is under warranty.

Why didnt it work to well... with my board i had to undo 3 screws holding the fan to the heatsink.... mind you the 875P doesnt get overly hot...

when i said "it didnot work well" i was refering to the fan stayed on the heatsinkl and the whole thing came off the chipset when i was just trying to remove the fan. I didnt break anything. It was jsut my first experience of taking something off the motherboard.

i assumed that had happened... unfortunate as it was good experiance!

I have the same problem. I have A8N-SLI Deluxe, and now my computer has started freezing at random points. Some guy on another forum said it might have a connection. My temperature's are fine though.

as far as chipset coolers go, either liquid or use the Tt Extreme spirit II

Instead of another annoying fan you can get a passive cooler and not have to worry about it. Zalman makes some nice ones.

I would use Arctic Silver paste with it.

After reading this thread, I was surprised with the amount of chipset sized fans dying all too soon.

I've had one die on the DW's eMachine. It was a 40x10mm style. I replaced it with a Scythe 40x10 that http://www.frozencpu.com offered. Radio Shack wanted more money than Frozencpu +s/h!

For the price, the little fan came with a 2-pin to 3-pin adaptor if needed.
