This bios works for ECC users, and works on Vista 32-bit without any major problems.
Think for yourself, question authority!

When I try to install this express bios update on Vista 32 I get a "severe" error message that "This program is unable to continue. The system you are trying to update does not support Intel(R) Express BIOS update, or there are incompatible applications running. Please close all open applications and try again."

I have been updating with Express Bios for over a year, and never experienced this before. Is it a result of some Vista "security fix?" Windows Defender also pops up after this happens, noting it detected changes in driver EBIOS32, but even after checking "permit" on the action, it pops up again the next time I try, and EBIOS32.SYS is not in the C:\Windows\system32\Drivers directory where it should be. Closing Windows Defender doesn't seem to help.

I know I can get an ISO version and install from boot, but would like to understand what is going on if anyone can clue me in!

Try running the update from safe mode? I believe you will have minimized the amount of possible driver conflicts then. Also, have you disabled driver signing for anything?

Thanks, IRQ Conflict, for the suggestions, but still wouldn't run from safe mode. And I am pretty sure that I have not disabled driver signing for anything. I tried an older version of express bios update, and it was prepared to run, so it must have something to do with the new version. Guess I can try a new download . . .

I just run my machine with enabled "USB Legacy" for some days now and it seems it "fixes" the problem.

Maybe someone can try with this setting disabled for some days (to see if USB devices are always recognised properly) and post his results here? Looks like a bug because this Legacy setting shouldn't matter when working with Windows.
