Intel D975XBX2 failed to boot, please help!!

Post by phsieh2005 »

HI,

I am building a new system. The system failed to boot, no beeps, no POST, blank screen.

The hardware list:
Intel D975XBX2 motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850
OCZ Reaper 4 GB (2x2GB) DDR2-800 4-4-415, 2.1v
Nvidia Quadro 3450
Sea Sonic S12 650 w Power supply
WD Raptor 75 GB sATA

Removed battery for more than 45 min. - same problem (no beeps, no POST, blank screen).
Tried another power supply, but, only connects the main power (24 pin) and the 8 pin connector (12 v). - same problem.
removed all ram. got beeps.
There is a LED on the motherboard. this LED lights up when powering up.
The nvidia video card was taking from another system (it was working).
When powered up, CPU fan and all case fans works.

According to D975XBX2 Spec, it requires memory ran on 1.8 v - 1.9v. The OCZ reaper runs at 2.1 v. Could this be a problem? I did also tried another OCZ memory (Platinum version 2, which ran at 1.9v - 2.1v) - same problem.
Does D975XBX2 supports E6850 CPU?

Could this be a compatibility issue or defective MB?

Your suggestion will be highly appreciated.

take the CPU out and put it back in... Silly I know, but recently I've had a few LGA775 boards have a situation where the CPU pins aren't matching up to the CPU and the board powers up but nothing happens. Worth a shot and the first time it happened to me I wasted an hour trying to change out everything but the CPU.

Technically the 1333FSB CPU's are not supported by tge i975XBX2. Though some have managed to get it to work. I think that might be your problem. Try a 1066FSB CPU and see if it boots with that.

Thanks for the answers!

Intel Support also mentioned that E6850 is not compatible with D975XBX2. It looks like I will have to either buy another MB or CPU.

Do you think that by putting E6850 on D975XBX2 and power up (only few minutes) will damage either the MB or CPU (or both)?

I don't think it would damage either the processor or the mobo, it just won't boot and if it does it may not be stable.

Thanks sparky!

In that case, I guess I will have no choice but to buy a Gigabyte MB and a Q6600 (later) and build two systems. I hate to waste computer components.

I have built several AMD computers. This is my first Intel system. I have to be more careful about compatibility from now on.

That CPU will work with that Mobo; HOWEVER:

Not with more than 2 sticks of 800mhz ddr2 ram. (i got 2gb working)
And even then its stretching it, you have to get the settings right by trial and error,
and you might want a spare stick of 667mhz ram to boot when your trail turns to error.

Read this thread i made when i was going through the same thing you are
