Last year at IDF we showed you some of the first pictures of the Skulltrail platform and when it was finally released it was hands down the fastest platform we have ever tested here at Legit Reviews. We were tipped off at this years IDF that a Skulltrail 2 platfom is in the works at a super secret lab at Intel. No details were given about Skulltrail 2 other than the fact that it is in the works. Intel hasn't been too forward with information and benchmark numbers this IDF for the simple reason they don't have to release them. AMD has no processors to compete with the flagship processors, so everyone here is similing and not talking!
Could Skulltrail 2 be lurking inside?

What would this actually be? 4 CPUs?

Probably just Intel Core i7 (Nehalem) rather than C2D...vicaphit wrote:What would this actually be? 4 CPUs?

Good point.
I imagine a skulltrail with the Nehalem processor will open up a black hole the first time it is turned on.

Re: Intel Planning Skulltrail 2 Platform For Ultimate AMD Ownage
Its nice to see platforms from Intel with ECC.
Intel should keep ECC/FBDIMMS and not rush to DDR3, which is clearly unusable and broken (until it has ECC, it is unproven cruft).
They should dump the nvidia pcie bridge and put in a native dual pci 2.0 x16, and add a bunch of 8xlane pcie slots for raid cards and the like.
The other thing Intel REALLY needs to do is come up with a sound card built in that enables games to work 100% with EAX, DirectSound3D, etc in the following:
Windows 2003 SP2
Windows XP 64 SP2
Windows XP 32 SP3
Windows Vista 32/64 SP1.
The MAIN problem right now is sound is completely broken in most games. Intel should include a specialized creative chip with properly working drivers to enable games on the modern OSes.
My test is: Hitman 1 (Hitman : Codename 47). if the platform cannot run music and EAX in that game, the system IS DEAD TO ME.
HEAR THIS INTEL PEOPLE: FIX SOUND IN GAMES! Asus Xonar cant do it, creative cant do it, Microsoft might listen to intel by they are rude arrogant pigs that broke gaming in Vista SP1/2003/XP64 SP2.

Re: Intel Planning Skulltrail 2 Platform For Ultimate AMD Ownage
Honestly, the number 1 threat to gaming is the breaking of EAX and Vista SP1/XP64 SP2.
Not only did sound go way back in terms of compatibility and capability, the inability to bridge old software to new platforms, such as 64-bit platforms, is a huge gigantic mistake by microsoft.
the disgusting thing is is that WINE, freaking WINE on Linux, is starting to run Windows DirectX games better than vista.
Microsoft is being a criminal thug with the Anti-EAX anti DirectSound mess and they should be beaten up by intel for it.
Sound is the key to gaming platforms. EAX has to work on all games on all platforms.
