D975XBX2 board wont post

Post by wwmnix »

specs-
D975XBX2 mobo
Intel C2Q Q6700
Radeon HD 4850
4 gigs of Corsair XMS2

This is a new build that i cant seem to get to post or beep at all actually, I can get all the fans and lights running but it wont go any further than that.
i've built a few PC's in the past but most of them were a breeze and never really ran into any problems. I have browsed the internet and run through most of the troubleshooting suggested. (1 slot of ram, trying to boot with the mobo out of the case on cardboard, etc)

The main thing that concerns me is that i am not getting any BIOS Beeps with no RAM inserted or the one for no GFX card.
the green light next to the 24 pin lights up with the power supply on, and when i turn the computer on, the CPU light flashes red for a millisecond or so as all the fans start up, but i dont know if that means anything.

I cant test the memory or GFX card on any other machine either.
Does it sound like the board is shot or could there be something causing this.

Have you tired removing and reinstalling all your SATA and or IDE cables and any PCI or PCI-E cards as well as Ram? I've had the same problem and it was trial and error unplugging and reinstalling all my hardware. Do you have the BIOS jumper installed correctly? Seems like it would POST but I'm not sure if it would POST if the jumper was completely removed. Hope this helps.

Jumpers are in the right place. Tried resetting the CMOS. Everything has been unplugged and plugged back in a dozen times. Im pretty much just trying to get a post with Ram, CPU, and video card plugged in atm.

does anyone know if this motherboard should beep at all when it boots/posts. I havn't gotten any noise whatsoever out of it so far.

Mine doesn't make any sounds on POST or boot. I wonder if the board is bad. Can you return it?

a friend of mine gave me the board. He used it for about a month or two total before upgrading. I believe he's still got an RMA or w/e its called on it. I assume there's a good chance its the board though considering it doesnt give any error with no RAM or GFX card in, but the CPU fan fires up and im getting a green light on the board.

I guess i'll try a different video card if i can get ahold of one first to make sure it's not posting and i just cant see it since you said there's no beep on the startup.
Sadly i still suspect the motherboard at this point.

Thanks for the help

Knowing the track record of the BX2 boards, I think you're right to RMA the board. I have never seen a board so popular and yet so problematic. :-k

Try booting with no memory. The book says you will get 3 beeps with no memory.
Once you get the BIOS you'll have to goose the memory voltage up a little for 4 Gigs.
That BIOS reset jumper is a bit tricky, I remember having some problems with it. My Badaxe2 took a long time to get going too, but it hasn't given me any problems in a long, long time.
Your friend who gave this to you, did he have it running nicely before he gave it to you? Did he put the latest BIOS in it? Did you get the book with it? Did it come with the CPU or did you put it in?
Throughout all the problems I had when building this thing I have not RMA'd the board. I have all the parts I started with except the video card which died a few months ago.

so as i was removing the processor to get the motherboard replaced, i noticed a bent pin on the CPU board thingy. I reluctantly moved the pin back into place and it posted like a champ ^_^

Yeah that's why I was asking about the condition you got it in. Glad to hear it is running.
Go to the Corsair site to get the exact mem voltage for this mobo.
